Farmer Protest: Under the invitation of United Kisan Morcha SKM by Bharatiya Kisan Union Ekta-Ugrahan, massive protests were held at district centers across Punjab on December 23 against the central agriculture draft and the pending demands of Delhi Ghol including legal guarantee of MSP. A state level meeting was held under the chairmanship of Joginder Singh Ugrahan at Dana Mandi today for the preparation of Hundreds of leaders and activists from the village level including a large number of women and youth participated in this meeting.
Addressing the meeting, Ugrahan said that the Center’s Agriculture Marketing Draft is a tool to forcefully impose the same black law on farmers across the country, which has been issued in 15 days for the formal approval of the state governments, just like the GST taxes. State General Secretary Sukhdev Singh Kokri Kalan said that by implementing this draft in legal form, the pro-corporate open market policy of the World Trade Organization (WTO) will be overturned and the prices of crops will be looted.
Through the contract farming policy in the draft, the lands of ordinary farmers will be encroached by the corporate-landlord alliance. This draft is an announcement to trample the demand for legal guarantee of MSP. That is why, on the first stage of the decisive struggle by SKM on the demand of canceling this draft, protests are being held at the district level across the country.
