New Delhi, December 9
The Supreme Court on Monday dismissed a petition seeking directions to the Center and other authorities to lift restrictions on national and state highways in Punjab where farmers are protesting.
In this regard, the bench of Justices Surya Kant and Manmohan said that this matter is already under consideration before the court and repeated petitions on the same issue cannot be heard. The bench told petitioner Gaurav Luthra, “We are already investigating the larger issue. You are not the only conscience of society. Do not file duplicate petitions. Some are filing for publicity interest and some are filing to play to the gallery.”
The court also rejected Luthra’s request to tag the petition with the pending matter. It may be mentioned that farmers under the banner of United Kisan Morcha (Non-Political) and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha camped at Shambhu and Khannoori border points between Punjab and Haryana after their March to Delhi was stopped by the security forces from February 13. are The petition alleged that the farmers and their unions have blocked the entire national and state highways in Punjab indefinitely. It sought directions to ensure that national highways and railway tracks are not blocked by agitating farmers. News-Patiala
