Farmers seek cheaper credit, lower taxes in pre-Budget meet with Finance Minister: Here Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman today held a meeting with farmer leaders and people associated with agriculture in which the farmer leaders asked that they should be provided with cheap loans and more time should be given to clear installments. Before the budget, the Union Minister is holding meetings with various parties and taking the views of each party and today’s meeting was held under this series. In this meeting, the farmers demanded to double the amount of PM-Kisan income support. Meanwhile, financial assistance was requested and solutions to many challenges in the agricultural sector were sought. Among the main demands of the farmers, interest rates should be reduced to one percent and the annual PM Kisan installment should be increased from Rs.6,000 to Rs.12,000.
