Joint Commissioner of Police Shubham Agarwal met journalists here today to share the information obtained during the interrogation of drug smuggler Kanwarpal Singh, who was arrested by Ludhiana Police with 5 kilos of heroin. He said that Kanwarpal has connections with drug smugglers based in Pakistan and he had earlier brought heroin from the Attari border.
Shubham Aggarwal said that Kanwarpal was contacted by a person named Sam, a resident of the same area, who himself had brought heroin from Pakistan twice before. This time too Sam brought heroin from across the border which Kanwarpal Attari went to the border to collect. Kanwarpal, who was bringing this heroin from the border, was caught by the police on the way. He said that Kanwarpal is being interrogated further and his partner Sam is also being searched for
The Joint Commissioner of Police said that the accused Kanwarpal has been in the business of drug trafficking for the last four-five years and he has also been working on daily wages for show. The accused said that he had no work when he came in contact with Sam. It was Sam who asked him to smuggle drugs to make a quick buck. Earlier, Sam brought heroin to Kanwarpal once or twice, after which he directly contacted Kanwarpal with his colleagues in Pakistan. Kanwarpal used to communicate across the border via mobile or WhatsApp and a smuggler from Attari area of Amritsar was also in touch with Kanwarpal. Heroin used to come to him from Pakistan and the said person used to sell this consignment to Kanwarpal and Sam. Kanwarpal and Sam used to bring this heroin and sell it at different places in Punjab.
According to the police, the accused Kanwarpal brought this heroin on December 21. Because there were elections in Amritsar, Phagwara, Jalandhar and Ludhiana on that day, the police force was stationed there. After reaching Ludhiana, when the accused went to deliver the heroin, he was caught by the police. The police have named the accused Sam in this case and started a search for him.
