Gurusar reform, 16 January
After reviewing the construction work of Shaheed Kartar Singh Sarabha International Airport, Halwara, Deputy Commissioner Jitinder Jorwal claimed that all the work has been completed by other departments including public works. He said that the airport terminal will soon be handed over to the Union Ministry of Civil Aviation. He quoted Airport Authority of India officials as saying that flights will be started soon. He also claimed that Air India has agreed to start flights, adding that the final trial process is ongoing. The DC said that talks with Indian Air Force officials are also in the final stages.
Axion Pradeep Kumar of Public Works Department was present in today’s meeting along with the team. Officials of National Highway Authority, Water Supply and Sanitation, Powercom were also present. Deputy Commissioner Jorwal said that internal roads, public health facilities, lighting, terminal building, power sub-station and parking have been completed. Halwara Airport Chief Executive Officer Pankaj Kumar said that the Ministry of Civil Aviation is preparing to start flights soon after taking over the airport. Additional Deputy Commissioner Kulpreet Singh, Naib Tehsildar Raikot Satnam Singh were also present in the meeting.
