Political parties have also stepped up their activities as soon as the elections of local urban bodies in the state have been announced. A Congress meeting was held in Baghapurana but the candidates could not be announced due to alleged factionalism and division. Meanwhile, none of the candidates filed nominations for Baghapurana, Dharamkot and Nagar Panchayat Fatehgarh Panjtur on the first day. In Baghapurana, Congress leaders held a meeting under the leadership of Congress district president and former MLA Sukhjit Singh Kaka Lohgarh and observers appointed by the party, senior Congress leader Hans Raj Joshan and former district Congress president Gurbachan Singh Brar. On this occasion, the Congress leaders gathered for a meeting on the stage, but due to three factions, the candidates could not be announced. Former MLA from Baghapurana Constituency Darshan Singh Brar lists of his special supporters and Jagsir Singh Kalke and Bhola Singh Brar lists of his supporters were given to the observers. Earlier there was a program to announce the candidate but the decision was postponed on that occasion.
On this occasion, Hans Raj Joshan said that he will send the list to the High Command to field candidates who are eligible and capable of winning. On this occasion, District President Sukhjit Singh Kaka Lohgarh said that the time for these elections is very short but still Congress will field its candidates in the elections with full enthusiasm.

Jagwinderjit Singh Grewal said that no candidate filed nominations for Baghapurana, Dharamkot and Nagar Panchayat Fatehgarh Panjtur on the first day. He said that December 12 is the last date for filing nominations. Scrutiny of nominations will be held on December 13 and withdrawal of nominations will be held on December 14 and voting will be held on December 21. He said that the expenditure limit for Municipal Council candidate is Rs 3.60 lakh, for Municipal Council Class-1 candidate Rs 2.30 lakh, for Class-II candidate Rs 2 lakh and for Municipal Panchayat candidates the expenditure limit is Rs 1.40 lakh.
