Former Supreme Court Justice Lokur appointed head of UN Judicial Council


New Delhi: Former Supreme Court Justice Madan B. Lokur has been appointed as the Chairperson of the UN Internal Justice Council. His tenure will be till 12 November 2028. In a letter to Justice Lokur, UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres said that a retired Supreme Court judge will lead the council, which will also include other key legal experts. The letter sent on December 19 said, ‘I am pleased to appoint you as the Chairperson of the Council with immediate effect whose term will end on November 12, 2028.’ Justice Lokur (71) was appointed as a judge of the Supreme Court on June 4, 2012 and retired on December 30, 2018. -News-Patiala
