The Cyber Crime Division of the Punjab Police has busted the Minimum Support Price (MSP) payment fraud by arresting four persons who tampered with the grain procurement portal. Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Cyber Crime Division V Neerja said that the accused include Manish, Jasveer Singh, Angrez Singh and Balwinder Singh. The police have also recovered the digital devices used by the accused. The ADGP said that the accused used to change the mobile numbers of the farmers with their own mobile numbers in a sophisticated manner and fraudulently transfer the crop payments coming into their accounts to their accounts. After the work, they used to update the bank account information of the farmers. He said that action is being taken to arrest other accused involved in the scam. The ADGP said that IP records, other data and bank accounts were scrutinized during the preliminary investigation. It revealed unauthorized access to the grain procurement portal and fraudulent transfer of crop payments to different accounts. Investigation revealed that the accused had bought a mobile number and a mobile device from Mohali on fake identity. It was used for OTPs to tamper with farmers’ bank accounts on grain procurement portals.
