What if you are complaining about fraud and get fraud again with you! This will be a situation of sprinkling salt on the burn. There have been many such cases in America, where cyber criminals are preparing fake websites by copying the government websites who register fraud and are being framed again with people. In view of this, American agency FBI has released warning.
What is the whole matter?
Internet Crime Complaint Center is a portal of FBI where cybercrime is recorded. Last year, complaints of more than 8 lakh cases were filed on this, in which people suffered a loss of $ 16.6 billion. Now cyber criminals have prepared a fake portal with the imitation of this portal. Its domain name is also similar to this, due to which people are having difficulty in identifying the real site. In such a situation, if someone wants to complain about the fraud with him, then he is going on a fake portal. Here cyber criminals are stealing sensitive information like name, address, email and banking details from him. FBI has issued an advisory regarding this. Please tell that this is not the first such case. According to some reports, cyber criminals are also defrauding people by becoming government officials.
How to keep yourself safe?
- See its URL carefully before complaining on any portal. If you get spelling mistake in it, then be careful.
- Always add the entire URL while complaining online and avoid clicking on any other link seen in the search result.
- Before registering the complaint, look at the portal well and contact the concerned agency if anything seems suspicious.
- No government official ever asks you as details like PIN number. If someone is asking for such sensitive details from you, then understand that the scam is being tried with you.
