Ghagga: Sewerage issue discussed in Nagar Panchayat elections

The issue of non-availability of sewerage facility in Ghagga has become a hot topic in the Nagar Panchayat elections

Although sewerage facility is available in many villages of Punjab, Ghagga has not been able to come close to such a facility yet. Ghagga was notified as a Nagar Panchayat during the tenure of the former Chief Minister late Beant Singh and after that many governments came and many committees were formed but the town remained without sewage. While now half of the ‘AAP’ government has also passed Former president of Nagar Panchayat Ghagga, Major Singh Sekhon, said that during the previous Congress government, the matter of sewage project was advanced at the administrative level, but later, how it got stopped, this fact needs to be known. Former MLA Shutrana Nirmal Singh said that he had worked hard for this project and it should not be buried in the files. Current MLA Kulwant Singh Bazigar did not pick up the phone

Baljinder Kaur, executive officer of the Nagar Panchayat, admitted that in the past, approval was given for the sewage project under a central scheme, but the work could not be started in practice. Meanwhile, he said that a company is preparing a design for this sewage project worth about 50 crores and it is likely that the work of the sewage treatment plant may start soon. On the other hand, the locals have been waiting for the sewerage facility for a long time, as this project will bring a lot of relief to the people in the town.
