Google and Meta’s difficulties increased in India! ED sent summons again in this case, know what is the whole matter

Meta and Google: Google and meta are increasing difficulties due to News-Patiala of illegal online betting apps in India. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has again issued summons to both companies to appear on 28 July 2025. Earlier, representatives of Google and Meta had expressed their inability to attend the previous hearing, citing the lack of legal documents and sought a new date. Now they have been asked to appear in the next hearing with the necessary documents.

Fake brand was being used for promotion

According to sources, the ED investigation has revealed that these platforms are being used for fake brand promotion and advertisements of online betting apps. These apps are not only illegal but are also taking crores of youth across the country on the path of ruin. These speculative apps act like intoxication and deliver users in a state of addiction.

22 crore people in the country are connected with such apps

The most shocking thing is that about 22 crore people in India are associated with such apps in which 11 crore people participate in them daily. In the first quarter of 2025, about 1.6 billion visits were recorded on these sites. The online betting market in India has now reached $ 100 billion and every year a tax of about Rs 27,000 crore is being saved.

In the case, summons have also been sent to many big artists of Tollywood who have been involved in the brand promotion of these apps. It is clear that these companies promoted such advertisements in the greed of money, which had a direct impact on the weaker sections of the society.

Causes of mental illness

Experts say that such betting can cause mental illness. The World Health Organization (WHO) also considers it a mental disorder. So far, thousands of people in India, including students, housewives and unemployed youth, have committed suicide due to this addiction. According to a PIL filed in Telangana, more than 1,023 suicides in this state have been due to online betting.

This case is a serious warning that digital platforms will now have to tighten their News-Patiala standards. Especially in a country like India, where the addiction and losses related to betting are increasing rapidly, such negligence is unacceptable. Platforms like Google and Meta will now have to take responsibility, otherwise strict action is being considered.
