Google blunt ultimatum to its remote employees Come to the office or quit

One of the world’s largest tech companies, Google has given strict warning to many of its remote (home working) employees. Either come to the office, or leave the job.

During the Korona epidemic, most tech companies had given the facility to work from home. But now the situation is changing and companies like Google have again started promoting office culture.

Some Google teams, such as Technical Services and HR (People Operations) have clearly told their remote employees that they will now have to come to the office at least three days a week. If an employee is within 50 miles (about 80 km) from Google Office, then it has been made mandatory for him to come to the office. Those who do not do this can go to the job.

The company has also given another option to some employees, if they want, they can shift to the office by taking a one -time relocation package. At the same time, those who do not want to do this, they have an offer for ‘voluntary farewell’, that is, they can quit their jobs themselves.

Accounts are being taken from every team

Google spokesperson courtenay mencini says that this decision is being taken according to every team. He said, ‘We have already said that it is necessary for us to sit face to face. This helps in solving innovation and complex problems.

Another big reason behind this decision is AI i.e. Artificial Intelligence. Google has been investing heavily on AI for some time and for this the company has also trimmed and restructured in many teams. Those working in teams like Android, Chrome, Nest and Fitbit have already been given the option of voluntary farewell.

Google co-founder Sergei Brin is also in favor of working in the office. He had asked his AI teams earlier this year to spend more and more time in the office. He described the 60 -hour week as a ‘right balance’ so that the company would not be left behind in the race of AI.

Less employees in 2024 compared to 2022

By the end of 2024, Google had about 1.83 lakh employees worldwide, which is slightly less than in 2022. Now when the company is focusing on AI, it wants the team to work fast and work fast. It is clear that Google is now withdrawing from full remote work and employees who do not return to office will have to be ready to lose their jobs.
