If for some reason Google had to sell its famous web browser Chrome, then Openai, the company making Chatgpt, can show interest in buying it. This shocking disclosure was made when Openai officer Nick Tarley was testifying in a monopoly case against Google running in America.
US government screws on Google
The US government alleges that Google has illegally dominated online search and ad technology that it has become difficult for other companies to stay in the market. Now the court is deciding how to break this dominance of Google. If the court ordered to sell Chrome, Openai would like to buy it.
What did Openai say?
In the testimony, Nick Turley clearly said, “If Google had to sell Chrome, we are ready to buy it.” Chrome is the world’s most used browser today. According to data, about 64% of people use Chrome. At number two is Apple’s Safari, which is used by about 21% of people.
What did Google answer?
Google has completely denied these things and said that Chrome is not selling. The company wants the court to dismiss this case. Google’s regulatory head Lee-Ain Mullahland made a statement that these steps of the government will harm the ‘American consumers and the leadership of technology’.
Openai and Google, not with different routes
Openai told the court that he had earlier offered a ‘Partnership offer’ to Google, so that the results of Google search could be shown in Chatgpt. But Google turned down this offer. Nick Tarley clearly said, ‘We have no partnership with Google today.’
Openai has a strong partnership with Microsoft. Microsoft has its own search engine ‘Bing’ and browser ‘edge’. On the other hand, Google has also launched ‘Gemini AI’ to compete with Chatgpt.
Preparations to step into social media too
Another big news is that Openai is now thinking of creating its own social media platform. According to reports, this project is currently in the early stages, but Sam Altman (Openai’s CEO) is asking for its feedback.
Let us know that Sam Altman and Elon Musk (X owner) were the first business partners, but now both have been separated. Musk’s company X has also brought its own tool named ‘Grok AI’.
What will happen next?
This trial against Google will run for ‘three weeks’ and it also keeps an eye on Ba’s tech companies like Meta, Amazon, Apple. Because the US government has also been accused of ‘monopoly’ on them.
