Hop shoot is one of the most expensive vegetables not only in India but worldwide. In Indian markets, they can cost anywhere from ₹85,000 to ₹100,000 per kg. They are mainly found in limited areas of Bihar and Himachal Pradesh and are very difficult to cultivate. These plants do not grow in straight rows, making harvesting by machines impossible.
Farmers have to find each hop shoot individually and cut it by hand. This entire process requires a lot of time and effort. Hundreds of hop shoots are needed to harvest 1 kg. It is very expensive because it contains natural acids like humulone and lupolone. Both these acids can help fight cancer cells and diseases like tuberculosis.
Gucci mushroom is the most expensive naturally occurring vegetable. Found in the forests of Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh, it fetches between ₹30,000 and ₹40,000 per kg. It is very expensive because it cannot be cultivated. Unlike other mushrooms, guchi grows only under specific natural conditions. It usually grows in cold mountain areas after snowfalls and storms.
Gucci mushrooms are not only expensive, but they are also highly nutritious. They are rich in protein, antioxidant vitamins and minerals. This vegetable is believed to help manage heart disease, diabetes and boost immunity. Both vegetables are so expensive because they are available in very limited quantities. Furthermore, one vegetable depends on slow and careful cultivation, while the other depends entirely on natural conditions.
