A stampede broke out during the event on July 2 in which 121 pilgrims died. In this case, the police had filed a 3,200-page charge sheet in the court during October. The police had arrested around a dozen organizers of the event, including chief organizer Dev Prakash Madhukar. Chief preacher Surajpal was not named as an accused in this case.

According to the police FIR, only 80,000 devotees were allowed to gather at the satsang event. Despite this, around 2,50,000 people gathered. The main accused in this incident was identified as Devprakash Madhukar who surrendered to the police. Earlier, the SIT formed to investigate the Hathras case submitted its report to the Uttar Pradesh government, after which the state government suspended six people, including the SDO and circle officer. Action was taken against these officers on charges of dereliction of duty. d
