HC takes notice of lack of basic facilities and staff in Punjab schools, seeks reply from state government by December 15


The Punjab-Haryana High Court has taken a strict stand regarding the dilapidated condition of schools in Punjab and the shortage of teachers. During the hearing of this case on Tuesday, the High Court has asked the Punjab Government for the details of the poor condition of the schools and the shortage of teachers. The High Court has asked for this information on complaints about the bad conditions of schools.

According to information, terming the matter as a serious matter of wider public interest, a single bench of the High Court had on October 14 taken notice of the matter and ordered it to be heard as a Public Interest Litigation.

The High Court has reprimanded the Punjab government by taking a strict stance after such cases have repeatedly come to light and said that the Punjab government is playing with the future of the country. The High Court also questioned whether these schools are in India or Afghanistan?

Taking a strict stance on the matter, the High Court has now ordered the Punjab Education Secretary to file an affidavit and provide all the following information:

Two information about all middle and primary schools in Punjab with less than five rooms.
Also provide information about schools without headmasters.
Also provide information about schools with less than five teachers.
Also provide information about schools with less than 50 teachers.
Also provide information about schools without clean drinking water.
Also find out about schools without playgrounds.
The High Court has sought answers to many other such questions from the Punjab Education Secretary.
Today, a bench of Chief Justice Sheel Nagu and Justice Sanjeev Barry, while hearing the matter, issued a notice to the Punjab government and ordered it to file a reply on the next hearing on December 15.
