According to a new study published in the American Journal of Human Biology, the ratio of the length between your index finger and ring finger can predict how much alcohol you can drink. The study named ‘2D:4D ratio’ states that there is a relationship between the length of the index finger (2D) and the length of the ring finger (4D). This ratio is not determined based on anatomy but comes from the amount of testosterone and estrogen felt in the womb.

What does the study say?
In general, people exposed to high levels of testosterone prenatally have a lower 2D:4D ratio. This means that their ring finger is longer than their index finger, while this ratio is higher in people who are exposed to more estrogen. In this study, 258 university students including 169 girls and 89 boys were examined. The average age of all of them was 22 years.

Alcohol’s Connection to Testosterone Levels
In this study, a team of scientists from Swansea University and Lodz Medical University in Poland found that a lower 2D:4D ratio indicates higher levels of prenatal testosterone. Such people drink more alcohol. They also have higher risks associated with alcohol. Also, both men and women with a low 2D:4D ratio consumed less alcohol and had a higher audit trail.

According to the study, the fourth finger of heavy drinkers is longer than the second finger, which reflects more testosterone than prenatal exposure to estrogen. Interestingly, it is more effective for the right hand than the left hand. That is, right-handed people’s hormones may be more attracted to alcohol.
