ICC gave a gift to Jasprit Bumrah after the defeat against Australia – News-Patiala Punjabi

New Delhi- Team India lost in the fourth test against Australia. However, after the defeat, the ICC has given Bumrah a place in the special list. India pacer Jasprit Bumrah was on Monday (Jan 30) nominated for the International Cricket Council (ICC) Test Cricketer of the Year 2024 award along with England star batsman Joe Root. Another England batsman Harry Brook and Sri Lankan Kamindu Mendis have also got a place in this list.

Bumrah has been the best bowler in Test cricket in 2024. He has taken 71 wickets in 13 matches at an average of 14.92 and a strike rate of 30.16, which is the best performance by any bowler. This fast bowler has also performed brilliantly in the current Border-Gavaskar Trophy and has taken 30 wickets in four Test matches.

“Bumrah, who returned to Test cricket in 2023 after recovering from a back injury, dominated the bowling in 2024,” the ICC said on its website. Bumrah took his best ever performance in 13 Test matches in the calendar year, taking 71 wickets and being the most successful bowler in the format. “Whether it was favorable conditions for fast bowlers in South Africa and Australia or difficult conditions for fast bowlers at home, Bumrah performed impressively throughout the year.”

The ICC regarded Bumrah’s match-changing spell in Perth as one of his most memorable performances, helping India win by 295 runs. England’s top batsman Root has been the most effective batsman this year, scoring 1,556 runs at an average of 55.57 in 17 Tests. The 34-year-old Root crossed the 1,000-run mark in a calendar year for the fifth time in his career, during which he scored six centuries and five half-centuries.
