If your washing machine shakes, makes noise, or vibrates excessively while washing clothes, it means that it is out of balance. This problem can often be caused by improper loading, the machine not being on level ground, or a component being loose. Fortunately, this can be easily fixed at home. Let’s find out how…
1. Spread the cloth evenly
The drum of the machine moves when the clothes are piled to one side. Load heavy items such as jeans, towels or bedsheets together to maintain an even weight. Always try to distribute the fabric evenly in the drum.
2. Check the machine level
A major cause of vibration is the machine being placed on an uneven surface. Check if the machine is tilting back and forth. Adjust the four legs of the machine if necessary. A mobile level meter app can also be used for this.
3. Install the anti-vibration pad
Placing rubber or silicone anti-vibration pads under the feet of the machine reduces vibration by 60-70%. It prevents the machine from slipping, reduces noise, and also protects the floor. This pad is readily available for Rs 75 to 150.
4. Tighten the feet of the machine
Sometimes, the machine is not able to handle even light weight due to loose machine feet. Tighten each foot by rotating and making sure all feet are firmly on the ground.
5. Avoid overloading
Overloading the drum can cause it to become unbalanced and vibrate excessively. Load as many kilograms as the machine can handle. If there are many clothes, wash twice.
6. Remove the items stuck in the drum
Coins, clips, or small objects stuck in the drum can also cause the machine to move. Check and remove the drum by rotating it.
7. Call for service if necessary
If all other solutions fail, the problem may be in the shock absorber or the motor. In this case, the safest option is to contact a service center for the same.
