For the first time in Ludhiana, the largest municipal corporation of the state, a woman has held the post of mayor. After the swearing-in ceremony in Guru Nanak Dev Bhavan this morning, the resolution to make Principal Inderjit Kaur the mayor was held, in which everyone raised their hands and gave their vote. His name was announced by Aam Aadmi Party Punjab President and Cabinet Minister Aman Arora. Apart from this, Rakesh Parashar, who became a councilor for the sixth time, was elected Senior Deputy Mayor and Deputy Mayor Prince Johar. Principal Inderjit Kaur contested the election from ward number 13 on behalf of Aam Aadmi Party and won the election for the first time. It is to be mentioned that the ‘AAP’ government had reserved the mayor’s chair for Ludhiana Municipal Corporation for women. ‘AAP’ did not have a majority at first, but later by breaking the tie, ‘AAP’ formally added 7 councilors from other parties to the party and completed the majority to make its own mayor. The names of many women councilors along with Nidhi Gupta were included in the race for the mayor’s seat, but principal Inderjit Kaur has been made the mayor due to the support of East Constituency MLA Daljit Singh Grewal Bhola. At the time of announcing that Principal Inderjit Kaur will be made mayor, along with all councilors, all MLAs, Minister Hardeep Singh Mundia, Tarunpreet Singh Saund and former MLA Gurpreet Gogi’s wife Dr. Sukhchain Kaur Gogi was also present.
All councilors were first sworn in at the swearing-in ceremony held at Guru Nanak Dev Bhavan on Monday. After which, when it was the turn to announce the mayor, all the councilors of AAP supported and after that Rakesh Parashar, the brother of MLA Ashok Parashar Pappi, who became a councilor for the sixth time, was announced as the senior deputy mayor. Councilor Prince Johar from Ward No. 40 was elected to the post of Deputy Mayor. After which everyone congratulated the three. Aam Aadmi Party Punjab President Aman Arora reached the Municipal Corporation and charged them.
Developing is my priority; All councilors will be equal: Inderjit Kaur
Newly appointed Mayor Principal Inderjit Kaur while speaking after assuming the post of Mayor said that development in the city will be his priority. He said that he has no opponent. The city will be developed by keeping councilors of all 95 wards equally. He said that the city will be made green. Roads, sewerage system and drainage system, wherever there is a problem, work will be done on priority basis. Where there is more pollution, parks will be built, or trees will be planted. Along with this, the already ongoing work for cleaning the old drain will also be speeded up. He said that he will work hard to make the city beautiful.

Rakesh Parashar, who became the councilor and senior deputy mayor for the sixth time in a row, said that he has no complaint that the party did not make him the mayor, but he is happy that the Aam Aadmi Party has given the first woman mayor of the city. History has been made. He said that he has 25 years of experience as a councilor while the Mayor and Deputy Mayor have come to the Corporation House for the first time. They will form a team and work for the development of all the three cities.
