India-China ties: India-China ties slightly improved: Jaishankar


New Delhi, December 3

Peace along LAC crucial, says Jaishankar: External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar today informed the Lok Sabha about the military activities on the Line of Actual Control (LAC). He stressed the need for more focus on the management of border areas adjacent to China, saying that peace on the LAC would form the basis of future relations with China.

He said that India and China are trying to resolve the mutual dispute through dialogue. Troops have withdrawn in eastern Ladakh, but disputes remain in many areas of the LAC. India is trying to find a solution that is acceptable to both countries. Jaishankar detailed the efforts made at the diplomatic and military levels to deal with the crisis.

He said that India’s priority is to prevent untoward incidents and clashes for which talks are going on. He said that patrolling is being resumed in traditional areas. He said that the relations between India and China had deteriorated after 2020, but after the current talks, the situation has improved somewhat. He said that for peace on the border, it is necessary that both countries respect the LAC.
