Donald Trump has become the 47th President of the United States. It’s been a few hours since Donald Trump became President and the discussion on Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (POK) has started. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Donald Trump’s friendship is being praised in the Pakistani media. Discussions have started in Pakistan that India inflicted a deep wound during Trump’s first term. Now that Trump has become president for the second time, will India play a big game in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir? After the abrogation of Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir in 2019, the Modi government is now eyeing to acquire PoK. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s happiness is clearly visible as soon as Donald Trump became the President. Because, when Donald Trump became the 45th President of the United States, during his tenure, India dealt a major blow to Pakistan.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is completing his third term. Like Donald Trump, Modi also dreams of PoK becoming part of India. In such a situation, once again the second term of Donald Trump has started in America. Trump has been very close to India during his first term. In such a situation, his second term as President can bring happiness to India. In fact, during Donald Trump’s first tenure, the Modi government scrapped Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir. Then Pakistan made a big fuss in the United Nations. But Trump paid no attention to Pakistan. In such a situation, experts say it would not be a big surprise if India annexes the rest of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir during Trump’s second term.
Will India occupy POK?
The chemistry between Prime Minister Modi and Donald Trump is being talked about a lot in Pakistan. There is a lot of discussion about PoK on Pakistani TV channels. The panelists of the TV channel are very critical of Trump. There is also a lot of discussion about their chemistry with PM Modi. There is a discussion in the Pakistani media that Prime Minister Modi is one of the world leaders who gave the first congratulatory message to Trump as soon as he was sworn in. When PM Modi congratulated Donald Trump, at that time Donald Trump was giving a speech after taking oath.
“Look, there is no doubt that India-US relations improved a lot during Modi’s tenure,” says Sanjeev Pandey, a senior journalist with close knowledge of India-US relations. Especially, the way the Indian government scrapped Article 370 on August 5, 2019. Pakistan made a big fuss over this. If Joe Biden had been the President of the US at that time, it would have been a matter of some concern for India. But, Trump was the president and he did not take the issue seriously. The result of which was that Pakistan did not get priority on many issues including the United Nations. In such a situation, it should not be surprising if the Indian government does something big about PoK.
Let us tell you that during Trump’s first tenure, on August 5, 2019, India’s Home Minister Amit Shah presented the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganization Act Bill in the Rajya Sabha. In it, Jammu and Kashmir was divided into two union territories, Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. This bill was also passed in the Rajya Sabha on the same day. The bill was introduced in the Lok Sabha on 6 August 2019 and the bill was passed on the same day. On 9 August 2019, the current President Ram Nath Kovind also approved it. Subsequently, the special status of Jammu and Kashmir was removed and Article 370 was also abolished.
