The Indian football team won the bronze medal by defeating Oman 3–2 in a penalty shootout in the first CAFA Nations Cup played for the first time. While Oman is at number 79 in the football rankings, India is at the 133rd position.

In the penalty shootout, Lalianjuala Chhangate, Rahul Bheke and Jitin MS scored goals for India. At the same time, Anwar Ali’s shot was saved and Udanta missed. Only Thani al -Rushaidi and Muhasan Al Ghasani were able to score from Oman. Indian captain and goalkeeper Gurpreet Singh Sandhu stopped India and gave India a historic victory.
