India won 24th medal in Paralympics, Dharmbir won gold and Pranav won silver
India won its 24th medal at the Paris Paralympics on Wednesday night. Dharambir Singh won the gold medal and Pranav Surma won the silver medal in the club throw final competition which lasted till 2 o’clock. Earlier, archer Harvinder Singh won the gold medal and shot putter Sachin Sargerao won the silver medal. Indian athletes won 2 gold and 2 silver medals on the 7th day of the Games.
With this, India’s total number of medals in the Paris Games has increased to 24. These include 5 gold, 9 silver and 10 bronze medals. At present, India is at number 13 in the medal list. This is the best performance by Indian Para athletes in Paralympic history. India won 19 medals in the Tokyo Games.
India won gold and silver medals in the men’s F-51 category in the club throw event. Still missed out on a clean sweep. Later in the night, Dharambir Singh won the gold medal with a best throw of 34.92 meters and Pranav Surma won the silver medal with a best throw of 34.59 meters. Serbia’s Jeliko Dimitrijevic won the bronze medal with a best throw of 34.18m.
In the club throw event, India could have won all three medals with a clean sweep but Amit Kumar fouled 4 throws in 6 attempts. Two of his throws were accurate, with the best only going 23.96 metres. Due to which Amit remained at number 10.
Harvinder Singh became the first Indian to win a gold medal in archery at the Paralympic Games. Harvinder finished 9th in the men’s individual recurve open ranking round. In the round of 32, he defeated Chinese Taipei’s Lung-Hui Tseng 7–3. Harvinder defeated Setiawan 6-2 in the pre-quarter final.
In the women’s T-12 category, India’s Simran has made it to the semi-finals of the 100m race. He won first place in heat-1 of round-1 with a time of 12.17 seconds. The semi-final of Simran will be held tomorrow at 3.21 pm.
Sachin Sargerao wins first medal in shot put on Day 7 of Paralympics. He won silver in the men’s F-46 category with an Asian record time of 16.32.
