Faridkot, 20 December
There has been no improvement in driving school vans and vehicles even after the death of a girl student and injuring five people in a school van that met with an accident a day ago in the nearby village of Clare. Punjab Vidhan Sabha Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhawan and Faridkot Deputy Commissioner Vaneet Kumar today inspected the overloaded school vehicles at various places in the city and immediately ordered the RTA to take strict legal action against such vehicles. In Faridkot city, about 15,000 students come to study every day through different vehicles and about 90 percent of the vehicles are in dilapidated condition and more students are seated on them than the capacity and no provision has been made in the vehicles for safety. Even the documents of most of the vehicles were found to be incomplete and these vehicles have passed their age. Vidhan Sabha Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhawan said that the provision of school vehicles in the city was not satisfactory. Therefore, the administration has been ordered to take immediate action in this matter.
