Hypersonic Missile: The video of a high speed flight in the sky of a burning missile went viral on social media on Wednesday, which people were surprised to see what Iran has fired this time. Some users asked, “Is it a hypersonic glide vehicle?” At the same time, many people compared it to meteorite. But the reports confirmed that it was Iran’s new hypersonic ballistic missile ‘Fattah’ which could fly a faster 15 times faster than the speed of sound.
The launch was the 11th stage of Iran’s ‘Operation True Promise III’, in which the missile crossed Israel’s air defense and in retaliation, Israeli Air Force attacked several military bases in Iran. The attack continued for the sixth day of the ongoing struggle between the two countries.
Can the ‘Fattah’ miss a decisive turn in the Iran-Israel conflict?
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has called Fattah a ‘turning point’. This solid fuel -powered missile was successful in penetrating the Israeli security system and arson and damaged the central parts of Israel. IRGC said, “Powerful and high -speed -changing Fattah missiles shook the hideouts of cowardly zayas and gave a clear message of Iran’s strength to Tehran’s opponents.”
According to experts, the speed of this missile was between 13 and 15 and it was changing its direction rapidly during the flight, which made it almost impossible for the existing anti-mesile systems.
What is a hypersonic missile?
Hypersonic missiles are weapons that fly at least five times faster than the speed of sound in the air (about 6,100 km/h) and can change their direction during flight. Their specialty makes them very difficult to track and destroy them. Iran officials say that almost all ballistic missiles hold hypersonic speed for some time before falling on the target.
Fattah missile technology
Fattah is a two-step, solid-fuel ballistic missile, equipped with a transitable nozzle. Its range is about 1,400 km and it can work in both inside and outside the atmosphere. It was first displayed in 2023 and according to Iranian experts, it is being considered a big jump in the country’s missile program.
It is said that this missile is operated by round shaped fuel and can rotate in any direction during the flight, which makes it very difficult to catch and stop it.
Strategic strength with speed
Along with Fattah, Iran has joined the few countries that have made functional hypersonic weapons, so far there were only Russia, China and India in this list. Hypersonic weapons have the ability to change the direction cleverly during the flight, compared to traditional missiles to dodge modern air defense systems. According to Press TV, it was the most aggressive operation ever in which many defense layers of Israel failed in front of Fattah.
Israel’s retaliation
After the missile attacks, Israel launched airstrikes on Iran. According to reports, Israeli fighter jets attacked five helicopters, a missile factory and a site standing on the centrifuge construction.
The voices of loud blasts were heard in Tehran. Israel said that these attacks were carried out for the purpose of limiting Iran’s missiles and nuclear capabilities.
