Google Gemini: Google’s Gemini AI is a tool that can make audio with video, can prepare books with pictures for children and even decide your travel plans. But along with its bright aspects, it has a dangerous side which a research team put in front of small but shocking demo.
From science fiction to reality
You must have seen in films that a person controls the lights of the house sitting far away or changes the temperature. But the researchers actually showed this feat and that too by hacking Gemini AI. He showed how changes can be made not only in the house by connecting AI with a smart device, but it can also cause serious harm.
Burglary at home from Google Calendar
According to WIRED report, the team hacked the Gemini Assistant running on Android phones through a Google calendar invoice in which the dangerous code was hidden. As soon as he asked Gemini to tell the essence of the calendar details, that code became active and started affecting all the devices of the house. In this way, a simple looking calendar became the means of taking the entire smart system of the invite house in its possession.
AI’s scary boundaries
Even though the researchers did not reveal technical details, but this demo was enough to show how devastating AI in the wrong hands can prove to be. Smart devices have already been victims of cyber attacks and now the danger has increased manifold due to the arrival of LLMS (large language model). This is the reason that it is very important to ensure the safety of these models before the expansion of Smart Home AI.
Google’s response and future challenge
This hacking demo was shared with Google and the company believes that control of AI through home devices can be dangerous. Although Google says that this weakness has not been misused till now, but it is working on removing it. In the coming time, there are plans to bring Gemini to Smartwatch, Smart TV and even cars which were declared in Keenot of I/O 2025. It is expected that Google and its security team will remove these weaknesses in a strong manner before cyber criminals take advantage of it.
