In this press conference, the Prime Minister of Italy has announced that her government is in talks with many other private companies of the world including Tesla and Elon Musk’s company SpaceX, owner of social media platform X, regarding the country’s telecom security system. However, he has denied any personal discussion with Elon Musk in this matter.
What did Meloni say about supporting Musk??
When asked about cooperation with Elon Musk’s company regarding Italy’s telecom security, the Italian Prime Minister said, “I never discussed this matter with Elon Musk. “I do not use my public position to solicit support from friends.”
Italy’s Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, while referring to SpaceX’s satellite system Starlink, stressed the government’s sole intention of national interest behind such a deal. However, the Prime Minister also said that the controversy surrounding this possible deal could be due to Elon Musk’s political views.
Elon Musk is not a threat to democracy: Meloni
Prime Minister Georgia Meloni then asked the journalists present, “Is this a matter of private investment or the political ideology of the investors?” Meloni defended Elon Musk’s right to express political views and told reporters, “Elon Musk is not a threat to democracy.” He further said, “This issue arises when an individual uses resources to fund parties and groups around the world to influence policies. Which I have not seen Elon Musk doing like George Soros.”
