IV fluid issue: Mamata government orders CID probe

Kolkata, January 13

The West Bengal government has ordered a CID inquiry into the death of one woman and critical condition of three others due to use of expired medicine. Chief Secretary Manoj Pant said that the condition of the patients had deteriorated due to the use of expired ‘IV fluid’ in the government-run Maternal-Child Hospital of the state.

He said that the 13-member committee formed by the state health department will also investigate the matter and strict action will be taken against those found responsible for the incident. This decision has been taken during a review meeting with senior officials of the health department chaired by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

“We have asked the CID to investigate the matter,” Pant said. They will look into all aspects and find out if there were flaws in the process and whether the SOPs (standard operating procedures) were followed properly or not.”

He said that the CID has been asked to submit a report on the matter within days. -News-Patiala
