There was a ruckus on Kothe Khanjura Road in Ludhiana’s Jagraon late on Wednesday evening when people, angry over no electricity for three days, came out of their houses and demonstrated against Powercom.

Mohalla residents Baba Sukhwinder Singh, Baldev Singh, Mangat Ram, Sarabjit Singh, Raghubir Singh, Rachpal Singh, Rajinder Singh, Sukhwinder Singh, Davinder Singh, Gurmel Kaur, Surjit Kaur, Jatinder Kaur and Sarabjit Kaur etc. told that the transformers installed in their area. Thieves had stolen oil from it. Due to which the electricity supply in their area came to a standstill. Powercom installed another transformer, but the next day thieves again stole oil from the transformer. Powercom again kept the transformer in the trolley and turned on the lights for the third time, but the thieves again stole the oil from the transformer.

There is no water even to drink

Due to which the lights have been switched off in their area for three days now. Due to no electricity they do not even have drinking water. In this regard, when the people of the locality asked the Powercom officials to switch on the lights, the officials said that Rs 20,000 worth of oil is used in the transformer. You guys put oil in the transformer, Powercom will start the lights. People say that he works as a laborer to feed his children, so how can he get oil worth Rs. 20,000.

SDO said – complaint given to police

When the SDO of Powercom was talked to in this regard, he said that Powercom had taken full care of the people by keeping transformers three times, but due to oil theft three times in a row, the department suffered a loss of Rs 2 lakh. He said that the allegations made by the people are wrong. He said that at present the department is out of oil. Will order oil and turn on the lights soon. A complaint has been lodged with the police regarding theft of oil from the transformer.

JE said that some other transformer is running the lights for two hours.

When I talked to JE Mohit Bansal, he said that considering the plight of the people, he is running lights from another transformer for two hours so that people can get water.
