In Jawaharlal Nehru University Student Union (JNSU) election, Left has won 3 posts in 4. The Left -backed All India Students Association (AISA) candidates have won the post of President, Vice President and General Secretary. The RSS -backed Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has returned to power after 9 years and won the post of Joint Secretary.
AISA’s Nitish Kumar has won the post of President. Manisha of Democratic Students Federation (DSF) won the post of General Secretary by Vice President and Muntha Fatima. AISA and DSF contested together. At the same time, Vaibhav Meena of ABVP was elected Joint Secretary with 1518 votes.
Voting was held on 25 April for the JNSU election. The results were declared after counting till late Sunday night. According to the JNU Election Commission, about 70 percent polling was held. Out of 7,906 students, around 5,500 votes. The JNSU elections were to be held on 8 April, but due to violence in the campus, voting was held on 25 April.

Nitish defeated ABVP candidate by 272 votes Nitish, who won the post of President, received a total of 1,702 votes. He defeated ABVP’s Shikha Swaraj by 272 votes. Shikha got 1,430 votes, while students Federation of India (SFI) supported Tayba Ahmed got 918 votes.
Manisha of Democratic Students Federation (DSF) got 1,150 votes, while Nitu Gautam of ABVP got 1,116 votes. DSF’s Muntha Fatima got 1,520 votes, while ABVP’s Kunal Rai got 1,406 votes.
ABVP’s Vaibhav Meena got 1,518 votes, while Naresh Kumar of AISA got 1,433 votes and Progressive Students Association (PSA) Nigam Kumari got 1,433 votes.
Winner Candidates’ Statements …
- Nitish Kumar: Funds are being cut continuously in the campus. We will draw funds from the treasury of the government. The campus infrastructure has been ruined, it will be improved.
- Manisha: This victory is the victory of the entire university. This is the victory of Baba Saheb, the victory of his dream. JNU was red and will remain red. We will work for students.
- Muntha Fatima: The left unit has always won here. We have to fight against centralization and privatization of education. We will continue to fight for the rights of students.
- Vaibhav Meena: The saffron has waved in JNU. We have won this after a decade, and ABVP will win all four seats in the next election.
JNSU elections were to be held on 8 April, but voting was held on 25 April after incidents of sabotage and violence in the campus.
Divide into Left parties, ABVP contested alone This time there was a rift between the Left Alliance in the JNSU election. AISA and Democratic Students Federation (DSF) contested together, while SFI and All India Students Federation (AISF) tied up with Birsa Ambedkar Phule Students Association (BAPSA) and Progressive Students Association (PSA).
ABVP contested alone and won the post of joint secretary and made it to the Central Panel after 9 years. The last time ABVP won the Central Panel seat in 2015, when Saurabh Sharma won the post of Joint Secretary. The party won the post of President in 2000-01. Then Sandeep Mahapatra of ABVP became the President.

Last year, the Left won the four seats- President, Vice President, General Secretary and Joint Secretary in the JNSU election last year. ABVP suffered defeat. Dhananjay became the President of the Students Union after getting 2973 votes. He defeated Umesh Chandra Ajmira of ABVP by 934 votes.
Mohammad Sajid won the Vice President, Priyanshi Arya General Secretary and Joint Secretary Post. In 2024, elections were held in JNU after 4 years. On March 22, a record 73% voting took place.
