Kapurthala DC Amit Panchal has declared December 21 as a dry day. He said that wherever elections are being held in Municipal Corporation Phagwara and Nagar Panchayats (Begowal, Bhulath, Dhilwan and Nadala). This order will remain in force in the district.

He has issued orders for a complete ban on opening of liquor vends and storage of liquor by individuals. This order will also be fully applicable to hotels, restaurants, clubs and liquor bars where sale and consumption of liquor is legally permitted.

DC Amit Kumar Panchal used the powers under Section 163 of the Indian Civil Security Code, 2023 to conduct the election process peacefully and maintain law and order as per the instructions issued by the State Election Commission. Orders for restrictions have been issued around polling booths on election day, December 21.

Ban on noise around polling booths

According to the order issued, there will be no campaigning by any candidate or his supporters in any public/private place within a radius of 200 meters of the polling booth centre. No person shall make any noise near the polling booth.
