New Delhi, January 22

AAP’s national convener Arvind Kejriwal has released a seven-point ‘manifesto’ for the middle class of the country. Kejriwal said that the governments of the time neglected the middle class and this class is the victim of ‘tax terrorism’.

Kejriwal said in a video message that the middle class is the real superpower of the Indian economy, but this class has been neglected and exploited for mere tax collection. Kejriwal announced that his seven-point charter addresses the concerns of the middle class. These include demands for increasing the education budget from the current 2 percent to 10 percent and setting the fee limit for private schools. He also proposed subsidies and scholarships for higher education so that everyone can have access to quality education.

The AAP chief stressed the need for an increase in healthcare expenditure (10 percent of GDP) along with the need to remove taxes on health insurance premiums. Citing the heavy financial burden on the middle class, Kejriwal also demanded an increase in the income tax exemption limit from Rs 7 lakh to Rs 10 lakh. Kejriwal criticized the political parties for portraying the middle class as a ‘slave mentality’ after the independence of the country. He promised that the AAP MPs would raise the voice of the middle class during the upcoming parliamentary sessions and make their issues part of the political discourse. -News-Patiala
