New Delhi, December 19
While the ruling BJP considered taking legal action against the Congress for selectively editing Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s comments on BR Ambedkar, Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Malakarjun Kharge raised a high profile against Shah. Privilege notice has been given in the House. Referring to Shah’s December 17 speech in the Rajya Sabha and his comments about BR Ambedkar, Kharge said Shah’s statements were offensive, tantamount to violation of privilege.
This notice has been sent to Rajya Sabha Secretary General PC Modi.
Parallel to this action inside Parliament, the Congress fielded its social media and digital platform cell chairperson Supriya Sreeneth to claim that several party leaders, MPs, Congress officials, including X Handel, had received a letter from ‘X’. The email was found, which said the government of India had asked Shah’s speech to be deleted.
It is learned that ‘X’ was asked by official agencies to remove edited clips being shared by Congress leaders on social media.
Sreeneth said that ‘X’ has refused to remove the tweet in the spirit of freedom of speech.
He questioned Shah, “If he thinks there is nothing wrong with that speech, why has the ministry asked ‘X’ to remove it?”
“This was the original speech and was not edited or distorted. Besides, he also showed the 34-page edited text of his speech available on the Rajya Sabha website, in which he clearly says, “It has become a fashion to name Dr Ambedkar and if he (opposition leader ) who will chant the name of God many times, they will attain heaven for seven births.
The Home Minister yesterday also said that while Congress stalwarts Jawaharlal Nehru and Indira Gandhi conferred the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian award, on themselves during their lifetime, they did not bestow the honor on BR Ambedkar. .
