New Delhi: Kunal Kamra had taunted him without naming Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. Comedians have been in trouble since then. Kunal Kamra has been granted interim anticipatory bail by the Madras High Court. The court has granted the comedian interim anticipatory bail till 7 April with conditions. Kunal Kamra sought bail citing his residence in Tamil Nadu.
Kunal Kamra had earlier filed a petition in the High Court and told that he had moved from Tamil Nadu to Mumbai since February 2021. However, he is a resident of Tamil Nadu. He also expressed concern about his safety. He said that after the performance in Mumbai, he is receiving threats and he is worried about the case that the Mumbai Police can arrest.
Defamation case against Kunal Kamra
A case was registered against Kunal Kamra on Thursday. According to police sources, the complaint claimed that Kamra sang a song while satirizing Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. The complaint was lodged by Rupesh Mishra, a member of the Yuva Sena. The police registered a non-hygienic offense. The police have already registered a case on Kamra under Section 356 (2) (defamation) of the Indian Code.
There was sabotage in the studio
The Mumbai Police has sent two summons to Kamra, but he has not yet appeared to make his statement. On March 24, Shiv Sena MLA Mangesh Kudalkar lodged a complaint against Kunal Kamra at the Kurla Nehruunagar police station. He has alleged that the comedian had described Deputy Chief Minister Shinde as a ‘traitor’. He has urged the police to register a case against Kamra. Shiv Sena activists vandalized the studio in Mumbai on the night of 23 March, where the comedian’s show was recorded.
