Mahal Kalan, 11 December
Even after about 3 years of Mahal Kalan being made a subdivision, the building for administrative work has not been allocated. Officials from SDM to Tehsil level are killing time by setting up temporary offices in other departments. Common people are also having to pay for their work.
It is worth mentioning that on 28 December 2011, Mahal Kalan was made a sub-tehsil during the then Akali BJP coalition government and 27 villages of the area were added to it. Then on January 7, 2022, during the then Congress government, Mahal Kalan was given the status of a sub-division. During the ‘AAP’ government, SDM and other related officers were posted here, but no permanent building could be constructed to accommodate these officers.
The SDM and other staff related to him are forced to sit and work in one room of the Market Committee. Similarly, the Tehsildar office has been running from the MGNREGA building of the BDPO office for a long time. The Tehsildar and Naib Tehsildar are sitting here doing the work of registries etc. The employees belonging to both the officers are facing problems to sit, work and keep office records. As there is no permanent solution for office buildings, most of the sub-divisional level departments are still running from Barnala.
About two and a half acres of land has also been given by the panchayat of village Gangohar near toll plaza on the Ludhiana-Barnala main road for the construction of the administrative building of the sub-division, which has been lying deserted for a long time. Farmer leader Gurdev Singh Mangewal said that the government should build this administrative building as soon as possible so that the people of the villages can get the facilities of all the offices under one building.
SDM Mahal Clan Harkanwaljit Singh says that the land for the sub-division complex has been transferred to the name of the Revenue Department. A case has been sent to the government to construct the building. As soon as the government sends a grant for this, the construction work will be started immediately.
