The Supreme Court has sought a report from the Uttar Pradesh Police regarding the allegations against former Union Minister Ajay Mishra’s son Ashish Mishra of influencing the witnesses of the 2021 Lakhimpur Khiri violence. Justice Suryakant and Justice N. The bench of Kotishwar Singh has ordered the SP of Lakhimpur Khiri to file the report in the court after the investigation. The bench said, “According to our opinion, the truth and credibility of such material can be examined only by the police administration. The police administration can submit a report in support or in opposition to the allegations made in the petition seeking cancellation of bail. Such claims are made to cancel the bail granted by the court.

Advocate Prashant Bhushan, appearing for the complainant, claimed that he has an ‘audio recording’ of an attempt to influence important witnesses in the case. They alleged that Mishra had participated in a public meeting in violation of bail conditions. While appealing for cancellation of Mishra’s bail, Bhushan said that the court can examine the authenticity of the material produced before him. -News-Patiala
