Letter written to Rahul to return Nehru’s documents taken on the orders of Sonia Gandhi to PM’s Museum

Ahmedabad (Gujarat), 16 December

Rizwan Qadri, a member of the Prime Minister’s Museum and Library (PMML) Society, has written a letter to the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, demanding the return of the documents that he had stolen from the country. It has been termed as ‘an important aspect of history’. According to him, these documents were allegedly withdrawn from the museum on the orders of senior Congress leader Sonia Gandhi.

Speaking to this news agency, Qadri said that he had written a letter to Sonia Gandhi in September requesting her to return the document to the institute. He said, “In September 2024, I wrote a letter to Sonia Gandhi requesting that 51 cartoons belonging to about eight different sections, which are part of the Nehru Collection at the Prime Minister’s Museum (earlier Nehru Memorial) were, either to be returned to the institution or to allow us to scan them, or to provide scanned copies thereof. This will enable us to study them and facilitate research on them by various scholars.”

Quadri added, “These include important correspondence between Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru and Lady Mountbatten, as well as letters exchanged with Pandit Govind Vallabh Pant, Jayaprakash Narayan and others. These letters are an important part of Indian history and the records prove that these documents were withdrawn from the museum on Sonia Gandhi’s instructions in 2008.”

He also said that after receiving no response from Sonia Gandhi, he wrote another letter to the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, about it. He said, “I have requested Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi to help restore these materials. I have also requested them to consider that these documents are part of the country’s heritage and an important aspect of its history. Until we can see these materials, we cannot determine the reasons for their withdrawal. There must be some objectionable material to remove them.” – ANI
