Punjab and Haryana High Court has issued strict orders regarding municipal elections in Punjab. The court has asked the Election Commission to deploy adequate number of policemen at every booth. Earlier, the court had ordered videography of the entire election process.

This argument was given in the petition

In the petition filed in the court, it was said that the incidents of violence and intimidation of voters that took place during the Panchayat elections should not happen in this election. It should be ensured that voters can vote with complete security without any fear. Adequate number of police forces should be deployed at all polling stations.

Elections will be held for 5 municipal corporations

In Punjab, corporation elections are being held in Amritsar, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Phagwara and Patiala. This time votes will be cast through EVMs. There are 37 lakh 32 thousand voters in 5 cities. Of these, 19.50 lakh are male voters and 17 lakh are female voters. Polling time will be from 7 am to 4 pm. Earlier voting used to take place from 8 to 4 pm, but this time it has been extended for 1 hour more.

After the elections, 381 members will be elected in the Municipal Corporation. At the same time, 598 members will be elected in municipal councils. Complete preparations are also being made for law and order. There will be 3 persons at a single polling station. If there are 2 polling stations then 2 officers will be deployed there.

The Commissioner has said that during the elections, instructions have been given to Arms and Ammunition that from now till the election process is over, it will be prohibited to carry arms. These orders have been sent. The Election Commission has deployed 22 observers throughout the elections.
