Lucknow, December 13
A local court in Lucknow has issued summons to Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi to appear on January 10, 2025, in the case of allegedly insulting freedom fighter Damodar Savarkar.
The Congress MP has been accused of inciting enmity and disturbing public harmony by making mischievous statements about freedom fighter Damodar Savarkar and will be prosecuted for this. Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACJM) Alok Verma issued the order on a criminal complaint filed by local advocate Niripendra Pandey.
ACJM Alok Verma’s court issued an order on Thursday summoning Rahul Gandhi as an accused to appear on January 10, 2025.
Pandey has said in his complaint that Rahul Gandhi was addressing a press conference in Maharashtra on December 17, 2022 during his ‘Bharat Joko Yatra’. Meanwhile, with the intention of spreading unrest and hatred in the society, he had called the freedom fighter Damodar Savarkar, a hero of the nationalist ideology, a ‘servant’ who was receiving pension from the British.
It is also alleged in the complaint that pre-printed leaflets were distributed to all the journalists in the press conference with the purpose of insulting Savarkar, which is proof that the leaflets against Savarkar were systematically printed in advance. Rahul is accused of making baseless allegations against Savarkar. -News-Patiala
