Mamata should be allowed to lead the India Alliance: Lalu Prasad Yadav

Patna, 10 December

Rashtriya Janata Dal chief Lalu Prasad Yadav on Tuesday said West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee should be allowed to lead the Bharat Bloc. His comments came days after Banerjee expressed her intention to take charge of the anti-BJP alliance.

Asked about the Congress’s ‘reservation’ and acceptance of him as the leader of the opposition, Lalu said, “Congress’s opposition will not matter…he should be allowed to lead the India Alliance.” Earlier, Lalu’s son and senior Rashtriya Janata Dal leader Tejashwi Yadav had said that he had no objection to any senior leader of the India Alliance, including Banerjee, leading the alliance. Stressed that the decision should be by consensus.

Notably, Mamata had on December 6 expressed her dissatisfaction with the functioning of the India Alliance, indicating her intention to take over the leadership of the alliance when given the opportunity. -News-Patiala
