Manipur: Mobile internet suspended: In view of communal violence in Manipur, orders have been issued to suspend mobile internet services in nine districts for two more days.
According to an official of the Home Department, mobile internet services have been suspended till 5.15 pm on December 5 as a precaution. No major incidents have been reported from the nine districts since November 18, although one person went missing from Kangpokpi district on November 25, officials said. Home Commissioner N Ashok Kumar, in his order, said, ‘In view of the current law and order situation in the state, there are still fears that some anti-social elements may use social media to broadcast images and hate speech and incite people. Due to which the state government has temporarily suspended the internet services. This ban will be applicable in nine districts. These districts include Imphal West, Imphal East, Bishnupur, Thobal, Kakching, Kangpokpi, Churachandpur, Jiribam and Ferzaul. It must also be mentioned that on November 15 and 16, after the bodies of three missing children and three women were recovered in Jiribam district, violence erupted and the situation worsened.
