New Delhi, December 9
The Supreme Court of the country has sought a report in a sealed envelope from the state government regarding the shops, houses and other properties set on fire during the communal violence in Manipur. A bench of Justice Surya Kant and Justice Sanjay Kumar said that the state government should solve the problems of the displaced people and besides taking criminal action against those who encroached on their property, compensation should also be collected. The apex court asked Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing for the Manipur government, to provide details about the damaged properties.
