Manmohan Singh obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Economics in 1952 and a Master’s degree in 1954 from Punjab University. After this, he worked as Senior Faculty of Economics in Punjab University from 1957 to 1966.

In the university, his chair and the room where he sat after lectures when he was a professor have been preserved. His quarter allotted in the university is also being renovated.

He has a house in Sector 11, Chandigarh, whose number is 727. No one lives in this house. But, due to his affection, a caretaker has been appointed to take care of the house. Manmohan Singh’s college friend Hansraj was also found in the house nearby.

He said that he used to solve the most difficult questions in school. After going abroad, I thought that he might have forgotten me, but once I met him, he surprised me by asking about my well-being directly by name.

Last time Manmohan Singh came to Chandigarh in 2018. Then he participated in a program of Punjab University.

We both studied together in Hindu College in Amritsar. We remained together for 2 years i.e. from 1952 to 1954. We both were toppers in the class. There were 30 students in our BA class.

The professor used to give difficult questions to both of us Hansraj further said that the mathematics professor in the class used to give difficult questions to both of us. The professor used to say that both of you can solve these questions, other boys cannot solve them. After this we both used to solve the questions together. If I told the professor about the solved question, he would be very happy.

After this I went to America. Contact is lost. I used to come to India every 2-3 years. In such a situation, we never got a chance to meet. He was a busy man. We thought how will he recognize us, but once we met him and asked him how are you Hansraj, see this is real love. I still remember this sentence.

Hansraj said that Manmohan was the best Prime Minister. He did a better job. He used to donate the salary given to him by the Government of India.

Only Manmohan Singh is discussed in the university After this the team talked to Dr. Samita Sharma, Chairperson of the Department of Economics at Panjab University. He said that the news of Professor Manmohan’s demise was received at night. All the memories related to him became fresh. Since yesterday we all have been talking about him. The whole university is talking about him today.

He said that when we used to study here, we used to hear his name. All the economics reforms that were brought in the country in 1991 were brought by Manmohan Singh. People remember him for this. We have read about them in books only and further taught them to children also.

He said that in 2018 I had a chance to meet him. Manmohan Singh had come to a program. His wife was also with him. I liked his politeness the most.

Manmohan Singh could not climb the stairs of the department Dr. Samita said that at that time Manmohan Singh could not climb the stairs of the department. At that time his age was around 85 years. We had taken signatures from him below. The loving words he spoke during this time will always remain with us.

Manmohan Singh had also brought his family to the quarter. After this, the professor took him to the quarter (F-15) inside the university, where Manmohan Singh had lived in the early days of his career. Renovation work is going on here. Professor tells that Manmohan Singh has been here for 3 to 4 years. His family also came here.

Director said- World class facilities available in cancer hospital Ashish Gulia, director of Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital, whose foundation was laid by Manmohan Singh, said that we have to remember his contribution. He laid the foundation stone of this hospital on 30 December 2013. Here, patients come from Punjab and other places including Uttarakhand, Himachal, Haryana, Jammu and Kashmir and Rajasthan. World class facilities are available here. Last year, more than 18 thousand new cancer patients were registered here.
