Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised the Indian team for winning the Junior Men’s Asia Cup by defeating Pakistan and congratulated the team. In this regard, a post on the social media platform ‘X’ has been shared.
In his tweet, the Prime Minister said, “We are proud of our hockey champions! It is a historic moment for Indian hockey as our men’s junior team has won the Junior Asia Cup 2024 title. Their exceptional skills, unmatched spirit and excellent teamwork have made this victory a part of the history of sporting glory.” “Congratulations to the young champions and best wishes for their future campaigns,” Modi added.

Notably, the Indian Junior Men’s Hockey team successfully defended their title by defeating arch-rivals Pakistan 5-3 in a high-scoring final match of the Men’s Junior Asia Cup played in Muscat (Oman) on Wednesday. India have won the title for a record fifth time in the history of the competition. Earlier, India has won the Junior Asia Men’s Hockey Cup in 2023, 2015, 2008 and 2004.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also congratulated the winning team. He said, “Congratulations to the Indian Junior Hockey Team for creating a golden history by defeating Pakistan 5-3 in the Men’s Junior Asia Cup 2024! All the countrymen are proud and happy for this historic achievement. Congratulations to all the members of Team India! May this winning streak continue like this, so good luck!”
For India, Arijit Singh Hundal scored four goals in the 4th, 18th, 47th and 54th minutes, while one goal was scored by Dilraj Singh in the 19th minute. Captain Shahid Hanan (3rd minute) and Sufiyan Khan (30th and 39th minutes) scored three goals for Pakistan. Hockey India has announced a cash prize of Rs 2 lakh to each player of the team and Rs 1 lakh to each supporting staff for this excellent performance. – IANS
