Meta new rule Teen accounts for users under 16 years of age now parents will have full control on children social site activities

Meta Teen Account: Meta platforms have now implemented its ‘Teen Accounts’ feature on Facebook and Messenger. This step has been taken because Mata has been alleging that it is not doing any work to protect young users from online dangers. This feature was first launched on Instagram and now it is also being implemented on other platforms. This includes better privacy settings and parental control so that parents can monitor their children’s social media activity.

Why is it necessary

This decision of Meta has come at a time when some American MPs are very active towards implementing laws like Kids Online Safety Act (KOSA), whose purpose is to protect children from the loss of social media. Along with Meta, companies like Meta and YouTube are also undergoing hundreds of cases on social media addiction from children and schools.

According to the information, in 2023, 33 states of the US, including California and New York, sued Meta that he was misleading people about the dangerous form of its platforms.

What did Meta say

Meta has said that now users below the age of 16 years will have to get the permission of the parents to go live. Apart from this, if a nude picture is found in the direct message, then the company will automatically blur.

Rules will be implemented in a few months

In July 2024, the US Senate approved two important bills which included Kosa and The Children and Teens’ Online Privacy Protection Act. Both these bills blame social media companies for the influence of their platforms on children and adolescents. However, the Republican -led house did not vote on the KOSA last year, but in the recent hearing it was clear that they are still in favor of bringing new laws for online security of children.
