Bathinda, 14 December
The election office of Aam Aadmi Party candidate Padmajit Mehta, who was defeated in the election arena for the post of councilor from ward number 48 here, became ‘Shri Ganesh’ today. On the occasion of the inauguration ceremony, where many big leaders of ‘AAP’ had arrived, the ‘absence’ of Bathinda (Urban) Constituency MLA Jagroop Singh Gill has fueled the discussion.
Padmajit Mehta is the son of Punjab Cricket Association president Amarjit Mehta and during the opening ceremony AAP chief spokesperson Neil Garg, Nagar Reform Trust Bathinda Chairman Jatinder Bhalla, Chairman Advocate Gurikbal Singh Chahal, Chairman Advocate Navdeep Singh Jida, Rakesh Puri, Youth President Rajan Amardeep Singh, Manjit Singh Lehra, Ashwini Bunty, Punjab Hotel Association President Satish Arora etc. were present. Almost all the leaders claimed that Padmajit Mehta Lasani would win the victory.
It may be mentioned that Jagrup Singh Gill has been the councilor of this ward for almost three decades and even now he has a good reputation and vote bank in the ward. This seat fell vacant after he became MLA. A few days ago, through AAP’s state president Aman Arora, Shiromani Akali Dal’s circle president Balwinder Singh ‘Binder’ had entered AAP. According to Mr. Binder, according to the ‘condition’ of this involvement, Aman Arora had given him the green signal in writing to contest the councilor election from ward number 48. The ruckus happened when Padmajit Mehta managed to get a ticket from the High Command.
In the situation that arose, the reputation of Aman Arora and Jagrup Singh Gill was at stake. Balwinder Singh said that he has failed by trusting both the leaders and now he will contest the election as an independent candidate. MLA Gill is openly avoiding any comment about the change, but according to sources, he is seeing it as an embarrassing phenomenon. At the inauguration of Padmajit Mehta’s office, Mr. Gill was also called to find out the reason for his absence, but he did not attend.
