During a major operation inside the Central Jail Fatehpur in Amritsar, Punjab, contraband has been recovered from prisoners and detainees. The recovered items included a total of 14 mobile phones (7 touch screen and 7 keypad phones), 10 SIM cards, 1 charger and 1 adapter.

This is the second time in a week that the jail administration has conducted a surprise inspection. On the complaint of Jail Assistant Superintendent Sahib Singh, a case has been registered against 15 prisoners in Islamabad police station.

Jail administration ordered investigation
Finding of banned items in the jail indicates administrative negligence and lack of security arrangements. The jail administration has ordered a thorough investigation into this matter. It will be seen how the banned items reached the jail and whether there is any involvement of the jail staff in it or not.

About 5 days ago also, during security check, prohibited items were recovered from the prisoners and lock-ups. During this period, the jail administration recovered 7 mobile phones (2 touch screen and 5 keypad phones) and 5 SIM cards. The accused had kept these banned items hidden in their cell.
