INAUGURATION
1. Modi inaugurates Jammu Railway Division: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the new railway division of Jammu and Charlapalli New Terminal Station in Telangana today i.e. on January 6 through video conference.
Jammu will be the 69th division of the country. Till now it was in Firozpur of Northern Railway zone.
- The Prime Minister also laid the foundation stone of Raigarh Railway Division building of East Coast Railway.
- At present there are a total of 17 zones and 68 divisions of Railways in the country.
- Jammu railway division will cover Udhampur, Srinagar, Baramulla rail link.
- At the same time, Charlapalli New Terminal Station is located in Medkal-Malkajgiri district of Telangana, which has been built at a cost of about Rs 413 crore.
- Also Raigarh Railway Division building was constructed to improve connectivity in Odisha, Andhra Pradesh and surrounding areas.
2. PM Modi inaugurates Namo Bharat Rail Corridor: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Delhi-Meerut Namo Bharat Rail Corridor between New Ashoknagar station in the capital Delhi to Sahibabad in Ghaziabad on January 5.
The Delhi-Meerut Namo Bharat Rail Corridor is 13 kilometers long.
- Through this, passengers going to Delhi-Meerut will be able to complete their journey in just 40 minutes.
- From New Ashok Nagar to Meerut South, Namo Bharat Rapid Rail will pass through a total of 11 stations.
- The Namo Bharat Rapid Rail project is aligned with the PM Gati Shakti Central Master Plan which aims to make people’s travel seamless, safe and convenient.

3. Center introduces two special categories of visas for international students: The Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India on January 5 launched two special categories of visas for international students – ‘e-Student Visa’ and ‘e-Student-X Visa’.
These visas are for foreign students wishing to pursue higher education in India.
- E-Student Visa will be issued to foreign students who seek admission to graduation, post graduation, doctoral or certificate programs in recognized educational institutions in India.
- E-student visa will be valid for 5 years. It can also be increased later.
- To avail the benefit of this visa, students will have to apply through ‘Study in India (SII)’ portal.
- India’s SII program comprises more than 600 educational institutions that offer more than 8,000 courses in specialized fields such as engineering, management, science, art, yoga and Buddhist studies.
4. Asia’s biggest air show to be held in Bengaluru: Asia’s largest air show ‘Aero India 2025’ will be held between 10 and 14 February.
This is the 15th edition of the aero show.
- Aero India 2025 will be held at Yelahanka, Bengaluru, Karnataka.
- The theme of this program is ‘Runway to a Billion Opportunities’.
- People will be allowed to watch the air show on 13 and 14 February.
- Bilateral meetings will also be held with friendly countries during the program.
- CEOs of various companies, domestic public CMDs and leading private defense and aerospace manufacturing companies of India will participate in the event.

5. Devjit Saikia will become the Secretary of BCCI: Devjit Saikia, the interim secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), will be the next secretary of the board.
Devjit Saikia has been the Joint Secretary of BCCI since 2019.
- The last date for nomination was January 4. Apart from him, no one else filled the nomination form.
- By-elections will be held for the posts of Secretary and Treasurer in BCCI on January 12.
- Since there is no other candidate, Saikia will continue on the post of secretary.
- He had replaced Jay Shah in December, who has now become the chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC).

6. Delhi Chief Minister inaugurates world class Olympic level shooting range: Delhi Chief Minister Atishi inaugurated the 10 meter world class Olympic level shooting range in Delhi on January 5.
This shooting range is in Kalkaji Government School, Government Co-Education Higher Secondary School No. 3.
- This 15 lane is equipped with electronic target system.
- Pistol and rifle shooting can be practiced in this.

7. Golden Globe Awards 2025: Payal Kapadia’s film All We Imagine as Light was nominated in 2 categories from India at the Golden Globe Awards. However, the film missed winning this award.
The 82nd Golden Globe Awards were given on the night of January 5 in California, USA.
- All We Imagine as Light was nominated in the categories of Best Film (Non-English) and Best Director.
- However, in May 2024, this film has received the Grand Prix Award at the Cannes Film Festival.
- French film Emilia Perez won the award in the Best Film category at the 82nd Golden Globe Awards.
- Director Brady Corbett received the Golden Globe Award for Best Director for the film The Brutalist.
8. Indian team lost in Border-Gavaskar Trophy: With the defeat by 6 wickets in the Sydney Test on 5 January, the Indian team also lost the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
Australian captain Pat Cummins and Indian captain Jasprit Bumrah after losing the Sydney Test.
- India lost 3-1 to Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Test series.
- Australia has defeated India in this series after 10 years.
- Earlier, the Australian team had won the series from Team India under the captaincy of MS Dhoni in the 2014-15 season.
- Bumrah, who took 32 wickets in the 5-match series, was chosen Man of the Series.
- The first Test between India and Australia was played on 28 November 1947. At that time this series did not have any special name. In 1996–97, this Test series was named Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
