After the death of two people due to the collapse of a building in Mohali village Sohana, the Municipal Corporation has intensified action against illegal constructions. Mayor Jiti Siddh held a meeting with Commissioner T. Benith and Building Branch officials and directed to take strict action in this matter.

Officials said that during the survey conducted in six villages of the corporation area, Sohana, Kumbra, Mataur, Sahi Majra, Madanpura and village Mohali, violations of rules were found in 97 buildings. In these villages, buildings up to 3 storeys are allowed only, but many buildings have been built contrary to the rules.
The Mayor has instructed the fire brigade to check fire safety equipment in all buildings. He said that there is the greatest danger of fire in these villages. It was told in the meeting that the buildings which were being constructed without getting the map passed, have been stopped.
Action will be taken against weak buildings The engineering department is checking the strength of the houses built inside Lal Dora. Action will be taken against buildings which are found weak. Apart from this, buildings whose height exceeds the prescribed limit will be ordered to be rectified as per the rules.
If the building owner does not get these repaired on time, the Municipal Corporation will itself take action and the expenses incurred on this will be recovered from the building owner. Municipal Corporation officials have made it clear that those violating the rules will not be spared under any circumstances. Action will also be taken against the owners of buildings whose construction has caused cracks in the nearby houses.
